Response to the Walker and Barrett articles

Response to the Walker's articles

Big ideas are very important to both professional artists and students. Big ideas can drive students to a deeper levels of thoughts and avoid them to focus on technical skills. Personal interests plays an vital role in developing big ideas, otherwise, art making is just solving problems. Big ideas encompass artists, and reflect the artist's main idea. Theme is not always same as Big ideas, as big idea is the overall picture of the art work and theme sometimes is one of the parts of big idea.

I really enjoy walker's article. There is no problem for me to understand this article. I agree with his opinion about big ideas of artwork. I think he did a really good job on this article, because this article makes me understand of art, as I always feel art is abstract.

Response to the Barrett's articles

I think it is important to break it down and understand what the advertisement or visual art really means.
The mass media advertise products and spread beliefs to public, and lots of people do not think what the message delivered by the media really means. By knowing how to interpret the message, people may know the real meaning of the message and therefore, can decide accept it or not.

I think sometimes adults can not understand what kids thinking about. And our interpretation of their thought is no what they really want to express. Can people interpret connotation in visual arts correctly if they come from a different culture background?  Different people will have different view about same thing.
